NYSC Act (Amendment) Bill — life and health insurance for corps members
Seeks to make life and health insurance cover for National Youth Service Corps members explicit and mandatory, rather than a matter of administrative practice.
Every year, thousands of young Nigerians leave home for a service year in an unfamiliar part of the country. The bill seeks to entrench their insurance cover in the NYSC Act itself, so that protection does not depend on the goodwill of an administration.
The proposal builds on the existing insurance scheme and would make the cover a statutory guarantee, with clearer reporting when a corps member is injured or dies in service.
